Newport Montessori is a small, private Montessori program serving children three to six years of age. We opened in September of 1999, are located in a conveniently situated facility in Middletown. We are a licensed Kindergarten program by the RI Department of Education (RIDE) and a licensed American Montessori School. In the Fall of 2011 we will also be licensed by the Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) and RIDE. Our teachers are Montessori Certified by the Association Montessori International (AMI) and/or American Montessori Society (AMS).
Our Philosophy
Emphasis is placed on individual growth and progress rather than on comparisons with other children. As a result, each child develops at his or her own pace and rhythm without the pressure of competition. Meanwhile, the multi-aged classroom creates an atmosphere of collaboration where children are encouraged to help one another and learn from each other as they solve problems together. This nurturing environment creates confidence and empathy, allowing each child to develop into an independent, compassionate and open-minded learner while developing valuable social skills. The Montessori classroom is a place where the process of discovery inspires motivation, exploration, and a lifetime love of learning.
